Procedures In the Office
At Tucson Breast Health Specialists, we offer ultrasound and biopsy procedures in the office.
Breast Ultrasound
Ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses sound waves to view tissues through the skin. It can be used to evaluate a lump in the breast or armpit as well as to guide biopsy. It is often used to assess the response to therapy when patients are having treatment before surgery.

More About Dr. LeyCore Needle Biopsy
If you have undergone exams or imaging tests that show you may have breast cancer, your doctor might refer you for a procedure known as a core needle biopsy (CNB). This is the preferred type of biopsy to identify breast cancer, as it removes more breast cancer than other forms of biopsy but does not require surgery.
Punch Biopsy
A punch biopsy involves using a small device to remove a sample of breast tissue. The sample will include layers of breast tissue just beneath your skin. A local anesthetic may be used to help ensure you are comfortable during this procedure.
“The level of care is excellent.”
Biopsy Results
Following your biopsy, a pathologist will review the biopsy tissue or fluid to check if there are cancer cells present. You can expect to receive your biopsy results in about a week. If your results do not give you a clear diagnosis, you may need to undergo a second core needle biopsy or a surgical biopsy.
